Pandharpur, Maharashtra : The holy town of Pandharpur is abuzz with devotees from all over India and abroad, as the sacred Ashadhi Ekadashi festival commences today. This auspicious day marks the culmination of the 13-day Pandharpur Wari Yatra, a centuries-old tradition where devotees carry sacred palanquins (palkhis) containing the idols of Lord Vitthal and Rukmini from Alandi and Dehu to Pandharpur.
As the sun rises over the banks of the Chandrabhaga River, lakhs of devotees take a holy dip, seeking spiritual purification and blessings from Lord Vitthal. The air is filled with the sweet scent of incense sticks, flowers, and the chanting of devotional hymns.
Throughout the day, devotees will offer prayers, perform puja, and participate in the vibrant processions (palkhi sohla) that wind their way through the streets of Pandharpur. The festival will culminate with the majestic Rath Yatra (Chariot Procession) in the evening, where the idols of Lord Vitthal and Rukmini will be taken out in a grand procession, accompanied by thousands of devotees.
This sacred festival celebrates the divine love of Lord Vitthal, an incarnation of Lord Krishna, and his consort Rukmini. It is believed that on this day, Lord Vitthal’s love and compassion are boundless, and devotees seek to experience his divine grace.
The Maharashtra government has made elaborate arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe experience for the devotees, with special buses, trains, and accommodation facilities. The local authorities have also set up medical camps, food stalls, and security personnel to cater to the massive influx of pilgrims.
As the festival reaches its climax, the atmosphere in Pandharpur is electric, with devotion, joy, and spiritual fervor filling every corner of this sacred town.
